M19 announces plenary speakers

The Mission 2019 (M19) leadership team announced plenary speakers for the upcoming USA/Canada regional conference, February 11-13, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri.

"Our prayer is that these articulate presenters, along with a host of other special session and workshop leaders, will help us move deeply into the topics of mission and evangelism," said Bob Broadbooks, USA/Canada regional director.

Featured speakers at M19 include:

Albert and Christine Hung

Albert Hung is superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene's Northern California District. Prior to his current assignment, Albert served as lead pastor of Trinity Church, a multi-site, multi-ethnic church serving the English, Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino communities east of Los Angeles, California. He also served as the international chaplain for Azusa Pacific University, leading chapel services for a global community of students from more than thirty countries. He speaks frequently on the topics of preaching, cross-cultural ministry, leadership development, and the future of the church.

As director of pastoral development for the Northern California District, Christine Hung helps care for and encourage pastors and their families, develops training days and workshops, curates a list of resources, networks, and conferences that will help pastors be effective in their call, and is an advocate for greater diversity within our pastoral corps. Prior to joining the Northern California District staff, Christine served as pastor of Trinity Church along with her husband. She is passionate about discipleship and empowering ordinary people to participate in God's mission in the world.

 

Douglas Powe

F. Douglas Powe Jr. is an ordained elder in the Baltimore/Washington Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Powe is committed to helping urban congregations and congregations in transitional areas to flourish through community partnering. His research interest are church revitalization, urban theology, and Wesleyan theology. Powe is the new director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership. He has authored or co-authored several books.

 

Ed Stetzer

Ed Stetzer holds the Billy Graham Chair of Church, Mission, and Evangelism at Wheaton College and serves as executive director of the Billy Graham Center. He has planted, revitalized, and pastored churches, trained pastors, and church planters on six continents. Stetzer is a contributing editor for Christianity Today, a columnist for Outreach Magazine, and is frequently cited or interviewed in news outlets. He also serves as visiting professor of research and missiology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and visiting research professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He serves as interim pastor of Moody Church in Chicago. He has authored or co-authored 11 books.

 

Carla Sunberg

Carla Sunberg was elected 43rd general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene at the 29th General Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana, in June 2017. At the time of her election, Sunberg was president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, where she had been serving since January 2014. She was ordained on the Russia North District, where she and her husband, Chuck, served the Church of the Nazarene for 13 years as pioneer missionaries to the former Soviet Union. While in Moscow, Russia, she served as director of Compassionate Ministries and later as director of theological education for the field. In 2005, the Sunbergs returned to the U.S. and began pastoring at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2011, she and her husband accepted a call to serve as co-district superintendents of the East Ohio District Church of the Nazarene. In addition, after serving on its board as the official representative for the Church of the Nazarene, Sunberg also served as president of Wesleyan-Holiness Women Clergy. She has authored or co-authored Reclaiming Eve: The Identity and Calling of Women in the Kingdom of GodReflecting the Image: Our Call to Mirror Christ in the World, and The Cappadocian Mothers: Deification Exemplified in the Writings of Basil, Gregory, and Gregory.

 

Filimão M. Chambo

Filimão M. Chambo was elected to the office of general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene in June 2017 by its 29th General Assembly, held in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was director of the Church of the Nazarene's Africa Region at the time of his election, a post he had held since 2009. As regional director, Chambo was responsible for overseeing the church planting and development efforts of the Church of the Nazarene across the continent of Africa. Before serving in the regional office, Chambo’s ministry experience included pastoral positions and Christian higher education. He served as pastor in South Africa for the Mphagane and Eldorado Park Churches of the Nazarene and in Mozambique at Igreja do Nazareno da Matola Cidade. He was an educator at NTC-South Africa, and at Seminário Nazareno em Mozambique, where he later became president. In 2005, Chambo was named education coordinator for the Africa Region, where he served until his appointment as regional director in 2009.
