PNG Chaplains training

The Nazarene General Hospital held a first-of-its-kind Chaplains’ Training Day at the Mission Station in Kudjip, Papua New Guinea, from from 7 to 11 March 2025. Over 24 men and women participated in the training.

Chaplain David Troxler taught chaplains and nursing staff about critical incident stress management. David is part of a Nazarene Missions Team from the Philadelphia District that came to Papua New Guinea.

On the final day, Hospital Lead Chaplain Anthony Koh's opening presentation highlighted the chaplain’s call and spiritual life. Troxler provided additional training on caring for people in crisis.

Attendees included educational chaplains, hospital chaplains, several nurses from other PNG hospitals without chaplains, industrial chaplains, and a Nazarene government official who serves in a government-run hospital.

One participant had never had chaplain training, so the training offered networking opportunities and discussions on personal skills development.

Joshua Sika honored the gathering, stating that it was helping correct inadvertent drift from the hospital's mission.

The group serving with Nazarene Missions Teams also worked on the station in various ways, processing medical supplies and conducting inventory, meeting with hospital staff and nursing students, and supporting an orphanage.

A second team from Philadelphia went to Bana, PNG, where they built an outpatient clinic for the hospital.
