Explosive growth follows 2010 Haiti earthquake

by | 06 Sep 2018

As Mesoamerica Evangelism Coordinator Bernie Slingerland surveyed the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, it was difficult for him to imagine how God could use His people to grow the church in Haiti.

Since then, the Church of the Nazarene went from planting no new churches to planting hundreds of new churches a year. Now, in the last three years, more than 1,000 new church plants have been established.

As a result, more than 10,000 people have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, and a new district has been organized in the country. This was made possible thanks to the JESUS film, countless volunteer missionaries, and many other church planting strategies.

Slingerland has led the revival in Haiti for the last 16 years, but he will be moving on to a new assignment this October.

"It's up to a new evangelism coordinator to continue facilitating the work in Haiti and beyond,” Slingerland said. “It's time for a Joshua to rise up and continue the work of regional evangelism in Mesoamerica."
