Solar project brings electricity to remote clinics in Papua New Guinea

by | 22 Apr 2015

Nazarene Health Ministries is beginning a new project to reach Papua New Guinea's highlands. Its Rural Health Services program will begin installing solar panels at remote clinics to provide emergency lighting and refrigeration for vaccines.

The highlands are among the most remote places on earth. Many residents can only be reached by aircraft, hours of driving over treacherous roads, or through even more hours of hiking across rugged mountain trails. For many years, regular medical care has been difficult, if not impossible.

These remote clinics, which see thousands of patients each year, are staffed by nursing officers trained at the Nazarene College of Nursing in Kudjip. This program has trained them not only in medicine, but also provided them with the spiritual and theological training necessary to be ministers of the gospel within the communities where they are living and serving.
