Scotland church helps food program stay alive

Erskine, Scotland, UK

(Paisley Express, 9 February) Erskine Church of the Nazarene has come to the rescue of a community group delivering lifeline food. EBI Unites had become homeless after space in an Erskine community center was needed by other groups. The volunteers are in high praise of the Church of the Nazarene who answered the call in their hour of need.

Project leader Jacqui Reid said: “This is all about the power of community. This will be our permanent home for the next couple of years.” 

The group delivers food and a listening ear to folk in need within Erskine, Bishopton and Inchinnan. EBI Unites began just a year ago after stepping into the breach when the Trussell Trust food bank for the area had to close.

Oklahoma church teams up with university for free clinic

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

(KFOR, 9 Feb) An Oklahoma City church has teamed up with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to help Oklahomans who are homeless or uninsured.

Last week, OUHSC and Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene dedicated the Unity Clinic at the Cole Community Center. Organizers say the student-led health clinic will serve those who are homeless or uninsured. At the clinic, patients can receive primary care services, counseling, education, and treatment of many types of illnesses. Students and health care providers from 19 different disciplines will be available to treat patients.

Scotland church receives gifted stove for food pantry

Largs, Scotland, UK

(Largs and Millport News, 7 Feb) Cameron Simmons, who runs Versatile Kitchens and Bathrooms, donated a new hob to the church so it can keep serving up to 120 meals every week for the town’s foodbank.

Pastor Tasha Alison says the gesture sprung from a donation from two of the church’s congregation. 

She explained: “Rick and Janis Wilson had known of the need for a new hob for some time, and told us last month that they had looked at a new gas hob that they would like to purchase and donate.

Indiana church holds Night to Shine drive thru

Marion, Indiana

(Marion Star, 16 February) A woman waves after she receives her tiara for the Night to Shine event Friday, Feb. 13, 2021. Hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation, the annual event celebrates people with special needs.

A line of cars wait outside the back entrance of the parking lot at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene Friday afternoon. 

Despite the frigid weather, dozens of volunteers stand around the lot, cheering and holding up signs that say, "You are beautiful" and "Kings and queens." A gray van pulls in, and a volunteer walks to the passenger side window to greet a young woman. She places a tiara on the woman's head, causing her face to light up. The woman beams as she waves to the other volunteers. 

The event was Night to Shine, an annual celebration that highlights teenagers and adults with special needs.

Kentucky church starts drive-up food pantry

Bowling Green, Kentucky

(WBKO, 9 February) - BG First Church of the Nazarene has opened a food pantry in their parking lot to honor a late staff member. Associate Pastor Terry Berry passed away this month and Berry had been the one to build the box to house the food pantry. The church says this is open to anyone to take as little or much as they need because they know are times are rough right now. The food pantry is located in their parking lot at 1503 Westen Street in Bowling Green.
