Bob Broadbooks, director for the Church of the Nazarene’s USA/Canada Region, underwent heart surgery Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Broadbooks was in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Sunday and Monday preaching revival services. He showed no indication of not feeling well, but began to have chest pains in the middle of the night Monday. Doctors at Nashville's Baptist Hospital examined the former Alabama North and Tennessee district superintendent and scheduled bypass surgery for early afternoon Tuesday. The surgery was then delayed until 6 a.m. local time Wednesday.

Broadbooks came out of the surgery, which involved five bypasses, after four hours in the operating room. Doctors said there were no complications and there is no damage to his heart. His recovery is going well and is on schedule, and he should be fine.

As of Friday, Broadbooks sat in a chair, took several walks, and is resting well.

Bob’s wife, Carol, is with him, as is his daughter, Keely, who lives in Nashville. Prayer is requested for a complete recovery.
