West Virginia church gives away 200 free pizzas, JESUS films
West Virginia's Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene wanted to give something to their community Easter weekend that would be a visual of the true meaning of Easter.
"We are located directly on Teays Valley Road, which is a prime spot during high traffic hours," said Lead Pastor Charles Williams. "We came up with the idea to literally 'take the gospel to the streets' and partnered with one of our local pizza places to hand out 200 whole pizzas, along with 200 JESUS films."
The outreach was an opportunity to provide "dinner and a movie" on Maundy Thursday that got the message and gospel out beyond the church congregation.
"God has been on the move in our church and community in the last six months in a mighty way," said Executive Pastor Bethany Carr. "We have experienced salvations, baptisms, new ministries, and continue to see new doors opened. This outreach event was the highlight of my Easter weekend — the horns beeping, traffic being backed up almost two miles, the variety of ages (children through senior adults) of the team working, and knowing that the message of Jesus Christ was being handed out was truly an awesome experience!"
Initially, the plan was to have cars drive through the parking lot, but with the heavy traffic the church decided to go straight to cars.
Within one hour and ten minutes, the team had handed out every pizza and DVD, as well as a flier about the church.
