Robert Stanley appointed MVNU director of admissions

by | 07 Dec 2018

Mount Vernon Nazarene University President Henry Spaulding II announced the appointment of Robert Stanley as director of admissions as of 19 November.

“I am very excited about Rob moving into the role of director of admissions,” said James Smith, vice president of university relations. “Rob has proven himself in every major area of the admissions office over his two stints at MVNU. He began on the recruitment trail and quickly became one of the most well-loved and effective admissions counselors for MVNU. He returned to help run our operations and implement new software behind the scenes. He then took on the challenge of visits and events and has produced incredible events in this role.”

Stanley’s experience with MVNU admissions, including serving as assistant director of admissions, assistant director of recruitment, and director of dual enrollment, plays well into the future of the university as 2018 saw the highest undergraduate enrollment in nine years.

“Despite the decline of Ohio high school graduates and many of the challenges facing private universities, I believe we are poised to continue reaching students looking for a quality academic education within a caring and Christian context,” Stanley said. “There are students who want more than the typical ‘college experience.’ They want to attend a university that prepares them for much more than a career or job — rather they are looking for a place that can help shape them for life and prepare them for Christian service.”

Stanley will work in collaboration with Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Beth DeLonzo to create and implement the recruiting strategies for each entering undergraduate class.

“Rob understands the nature of the job of admissions counselors, which is critical to supervising them,” DeLonzo said. “He also understands the importance of our relationships with the Nazarene churches in our field. This is critical to our overall recruitment strategy.”

Stanley’s seven years of experience with MVNU enrollment has positioned him to move MVNU forward in its efforts to expand the student base while the Mount Vernon campus cements its presence in downtown Mount Vernon with its art, nursing, and engineering programs.

“Much of the current growth in recent years has resulted from the nursing and engineering program that are now located in state-of-the-art facilities in downtown,” Stanley said. “Often we have prospective students and families remark how impressive the facilities are and how intriguing it is to have them located in the heart of the city in downtown Mount Vernon. It reflects the relationship the university has with the city of Mount Vernon and dependence they have upon each other.”

MVNU is pleased Stanley is leading university admissions and believes his experience working with students, schools, and counselors already has him, and the university, on a solid path into the future.

“He has literally done it all,” Smith said. “He knows the work of his office and he lives and breathes the heart of our campus. He cares deeply for MVNU, has a clear passion for our church, and is well-loved by all he comes in contact with. I know Rob is the right person to lead our admissions team forward.”
