Massachusetts clergywoman to be honored for fighting domestic violence

Mansfield, Massachusetts

(The Sun Chronicle, October 26) In a world where families are no stranger to domestic violence, clergy members might not be as prepared as they think to deal with a sudden crisis.

The Rev. Jossie Owens, an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, is a longtime supporter of Safe Havens, an interfaith partnership that seeks to tap the both pastoral and counseling disciplines to combat domestic violence and elder abuse, and aid their victims.

“We really need to educate ourselves about the cycle of violence,” said the 30-year-Mansfield resident, who teaches at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy.

Michigan church helps feed starving children

Richfield, Michigan

(ABC12, October 14) A program that provides food for hungry children around the world is getting a helping hand from a Mid-Michigan church.

Tons of food, like rice and soy, arrived at Richfield Church of the Nazarene for the Feed My Starving Children event.

Dozens of volunteers put the food into individual food packs.
