MNU appoints new athletic director

by | 07 Feb 2017

MidAmerica Nazarene University announced the appointment of Todd Garrett as director of university athletics.

“Todd has served in an interim role following the resignation of Kevin Steele in December," said David Spittal, MNU president. "Since his appointment to lead the transition, he has been actively engaged in program operations and has clearly demonstrated an understanding of the mission and philosophy of the university, including our commitment to students academically and athletically. I am confident that our university and our students will be served well under his leadership."

Previously Garrett has been director of development for the university since 2006 and, in addition to other advancement duties, has been the primary fundraiser for Pioneer athletics. A graduate of MNU, he served as director of the Pioneer Athletic Association from 2002 to 2006 and was head baseball coach from 1998 to 2006. Garrett was an educator prior to his positions at MNU, teaching at Frontier Trail Middle School in Olathe, Kansas, and serving as assistant baseball coach at Olathe South High School.

“It is truly an honor to join the MNU Athletic department as the new director of athletics,” Garrett said. “What an incredible opportunity to work closely with our coaching staff to continue the pursuit of excellence in competition while shaping lives for Christ’s kingdom. I look forward to engaging our faculty, staff, alumni, and student-athletes in further expanding on the storied success we have come to know."

Spittal extended congratulations to Garrett.

"We look forward to Todd’s leadership as we continue our MNU tradition of excellence," Spittal said.
